St. Francis Civic Center invites you to a “Sneek Peek” June 7th
The City of St. Francis invites you to attend a “Sneek Peek” of its new Civic Center on Saturday, June 7th from 1-4 p.m. at 3400 East Howard Avenue, St. Francis. The event will allow citizens, friends, and visitors of the City of St. Francis to go on a tour of the Civic Center site and see the progress of the construction.
City staff, volunteers, and contractors will be on hand at the “Sneek Peek” to help with information and tours. Light refreshments will be provided, as well as commemorative items to mark this historic event. Those on the tour may even get a chance to put their signature inside the walls of the building, so bring a marker!
The weekend also is extra special as it marks the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the St. Francis Fire Department. The first location of the Fire Department was on Howard Avenue near the location of the new Civic Center.
The final phase of construction on the St. Francis Civic Center, the new home of the Police Department, Fire Department, City Hall, and Historical Society, represents the culmination of many years of planning. Described by members of the planning committee and City Council as “a symbol of pride and our unique sense of community,” the Civic Center will bring together all units of city government under one roof, for increased efficiency, sharing of resources, and a higher level of safety.
The Civic Center consists of three buildings linked together by specially designed vestibules that lead to the center Rotunda. The Rotunda will have a service counter for City Hall and eight permanent displays for the St. Francis Historical Society.
“While our Civic Center will be the new home of our Police Department, Fire Department and City Hall,” says St. Francis Mayor CoryAnn St. Marie-Carls, “we are adding a truly unique element by including the St. Francis Historical Society. This partnership allows us to embrace the foundations of our past as we move forward into the future, and enhance public use of our building by providing exhibits for visitors, citizens, and, most importantly, our youth.”
If you’d like a permanent symbol of a person, event, or business to be a part of the Civic Center itself, you can purchase an engraved stone for the public plaza seating wall or garden wall as part of the “Buy A Stone” program. The deadline for purchasing stones is July 7th, and you can register for the program at the “Sneek Peek.”
The groundbreaking for the St. Francis Civic Center took place on Sunday, October 27. Since that time, throughout the cold and snowy winter, the building has continued to take shape. Beyer Construction, the general contractor for the City of St. Francis, developed the idea of a peek at the new buildings as a fun way to give the community an early look at the progress.
Mayor St. Marie-Carls adds, “Bray Architects and Beyer Construction as well as our City transition teams have done an outstanding job keeping this project moving forward in all elements through this tough winter. Thanks to this team effort, together we will soon move into our Civic Center home and remain there for many, many years to come.”News Release: City of St. Francis, WI
