St. Ann Center introduces new campus kickoff event

April 22, 2013

Just outside of downtown, in the shadows of the high rises and billion dollar investments in Milwaukee's 3rd Ward and lakefront properties, is an underserved area of the city poised to make some dramatic changes itself. With the construction of a brand new facility nearing groundbreaking on the north side, St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care announces the new Bucyrus Campus Kickoff Event on April 25.

The exciting event will be held at Zimmerman Architectural Studios, 2122 W. Mt. Vernon Ave., and attended by city dignitaries and stakeholders as St. Ann Center introduces the community to its new endeavor.

St. Ann Center is inspired to join with the north side community and grateful at the opportunity to enhance the area's existing strengths and beauty for everyone to see. The Bucyrus Campus will expand St. Ann Center's nationally award-winning programs, which will provide access to intergenerational comprehensive community-based care for people of all ages living with physical and cognitive disabilities and Alzheimer's disease. The new St. Ann Center Bucyrus Campus will play a role as a neighborhood anchor institution and serve as a collaborator with neighborhood-based partner organizations and residents in economic, educational and civic renewal efforts.

"It is my wish that every community in the United States have the opportunity to provide the intergenerational concept of care and offer an alternative to the premature institutionalization of our elders," says Sr. Edna Lonergan, president of St. Ann Center.

In less than 30 years, St. Ann Center has grown from four beds in the basement of St. Francis Convent into a flourishing multigenerational, multipurpose agency serving hundreds of adults and children. Their intergenerational national model stands as one of the first in the country to offer dementia-specific and comprehensive community-based health care fully integrated for all ages under one roof. St. Ann Center provides for the personal, psychosocial, medical, nursing and basic human needs of all adult clients and children offering intergenerational activities to nurture and promote family, community, diversity and support. Former Bucyrus International Chief Executive Officer Tim Sullivan leads St. Ann Center's capital campaign.

The event is open to the public and features a musical performance by the Senegalese and Milwaukee band Sindoolaa and catering by Wine Maniacs Wine Bar & Bistro.

We extend an invitation to everyone interested in learning more about this inspiring collaboration and partnership with the community. You can find directions to the event location online at zastudios.com.
