Crime Alert 9-1-09

Cudahy, Crime, Police, Crime Alert

On 8/30/09, at approximately 4:36am, the Cudahy Police Department responded to the 4500 block of S. Lawler regarding a 17 year old Wauwatosa girl who reported being sexually assaulted.  To this point, the investigation has revealed the victim was sexually assaulted in the 4000 block of E. Armour Ave by a known suspect.  The victim was then kicked out of the vehicle as the suspect fled the scene.  The victim walked to a nearby residence and alerted the residents, who called the police.

I have a previous engagement I need to be at so I wish I could attend.  I would like someone to ask about the new high school entrance and how Lake Dr. will be affected by this, since vehicles can enter from the north and south and when exiting the vehicles can go either left or right.  If my thinking is correct there will be a backup somewhere.  There will be several situations, kids getting out of the car on Lake Dr. because it takes so long to turn in, people that commute to work, etc.  How is this going to be handled in the morning and in the afternoon?

Your Voice in Education

School Board, E.W. Luther, Jeff Plale, Mark Honadel

I haven't made it to a South Milwaukee School Board meeting yet this year, but here's a report on one school that's in the district by E. W. Luther Elementary School parent Julie Schneider. It was written a couple of weeks ago, but I just now got the go-ahead to post it.

Although it concerns Luther specifically, it is a call to action for all South Milwaukeeans to get involved in our kids' ('our' as in the "It Takes a Villiage" sense) education.

Tradio - A Radio Rummage Sale on Saturdays!

community, fun, home

Every Saturday from 12-2pm my friend Jim Selovich hosts “Tradio” on AM-1050 WLIP.  It’s like a radio rummage sale where people call in or email him with things they are looking to sell, buy, trade, or barter.  He gets callers from all over since they listen live through the website too.

Find his radio show on AM 1050 WLIP (Kenosha). Listen live streaming at www.wlip.com and call in at 262-694-1050.  They could be pre-empted now and then by Badger fooball games - don't be discouraged by that!

Picture Books for Boys

Having two boys, it can be frustrating to find books they like. This is especially true with our youngest son.  Our youngest son, when he goes to the library, he first plays at the Lego table.  Then he plays at the train table.  Next he plays iSpy on the computer.  Then he tells me he's bored.  Finally - almost as a afterthought - he smiles, grabs two or three books at eye level, and tosses them my way.

However, through the years, we have found books that both our boys have liked. Thank goodness for Amazon.com reviews, recommendations from friends, nice librarians, and a lot of trial and error.  Here's a list of our favorite boy picture books -

My Truck is Stuck by Kevin Lewis

Monster at the End of this Book
An old classic. I loved this book when I was little! Now my kids like it.

I Stink by Kate and Jim McMullan

Dear Gov. Doyle, the Hoan is a bridge

Hoan, Doyle, MMAC

Perhaps this article (URL below) will acquaint Gov. Jim Doyle's Madison office with this great bridge that serves as the gateway and arota to Milwaukee from the south.

A neighbor to our west in Oak Creek, Kathleen Slamka, who opposes the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce's move that could lead to possibly demolishing the six-lane Hoan Bridge and replacing it with a four-lane  traffic-clogging, air-polluting, Port of Milwaukee-damaging, South Shore economy-busting 'lift' bridge anchoned with 'round-abouts', said that in a phone call to Doyle's Madison office that Doyle's staff said they'd never heard of the Hoan, and even had to ask how to spell it.
