Arizona Grille - Oak Creek

businesses, restaurant

This restaurant has been open a couple of months now (27th St south of Puetz Road) and I was thinking tex-mex by the way it looks on the outside.  Acutally it's not, it's good old fashioned down home southern cooking.  It's patterened after the Texas Roadhouse restaurants - looks very similiar inside - peanuts on the floor and all.  Menu items include Cowboy burgers, country fried chicken, steaks, ribs, seafood, and some great choices for homemade sides.  Stuffed sweet potatoes sound good don't they?  I had a ranch chicken sandwich, mom had the smothered chicken breast.  They give you a lot to eat so arrive hungry!  Now I have a hankering for some sweet tea.  I wonder if they serve that....

Miller Lite UPAF Ride a Huge Success

The Miller Lite Ride to benefit the United Performing Arts Fund (UPAF) was a huge success. My son, Chris, came home from college for the weekend and we did the 50-mile ride together.

We woke up early in the morning and got ready. I had loaded our bikes on to the bike rack the night before. We left our house at about 6:10 am and parked in the Third Ward. We rode to the starting line on Water Street just outside of the Performing Arts Center. Vendors were giving away free water and coffee and free samples of energy bars. I had a cup of Alterra Coffee, and we both drank water and ate an energy bar.

ADOPTED! Blue-eyed Beauty

Sarah's sea blue eyes are absolutely captivating, especially against her snow white fur.  This 2-year-old Siberian Husky mix doesn't just depend on her good looks, though!  She is a very intelligent, curious and social girl.  Sarah is thrilled to get visitors and loves to walk in the spring sunshine.  Sarah came to us as a stray and she's hoping to start a new life with an active family or guardian interested in training, exercising and bonding with their new pal! Siberian Huskies often do well with other dogs because they are so social and friendly, so Sarah might be a great dog to have your own pup meet!  Bring him or her down to WHS for a doggie intro on neutral ground.  See www.wihumane.org for more details.

The Flood of '08

Piles of furniture, toys, carpet and other items sat like mini-landfills at the curb next to so many neighbors’ homes today. Water seeping into basements of way too many South Milwaukeeans was bad enough. But way too many folks in my neighborhood would gladly have settled for just water. The awful news is that it was sewage. Four inches deep in some basements, eight inches deep in others and as much as four feet in a house up the street from us.

That was about the most dreadful damage from this weekend’s torrential downpour that dumped as much as eight inches of rain on our fair city.

A Different Way to Use Your Cell Phone on Trips

cell phones

Summer vacation is finally here and, as usual, I find my husband staring at a map.  I watch him daydream.  He takes down phone numbers.  He asks questions and he makes detailed plans for our summer.  He loves this and I don't mind because it's one less thing for me to think about.  Plus my husband's success rate with road trips is pretty good; we always have fun.

Teen Chat Decoder

So far, my kids are too young to care about chat rooms or text messaging or MySpace or Facebook or any other type of social networking sites.  However, since I enjoy learning new words, I do find this list of words very interesting and important.

These are the 28 most common acronyms and slang words used when chatting - the 28 Internet Teen Chat Acronyms Parents Should Know. Even though I hope to trust my kids when they do become interested in text messaging or chatting, I also think it's important to be aware of what they do online and to stay current with their language.
