Afraid For The Future
I picked up lunch at Culver’s this last week. I went inside as the drive thru was very busy.
I ordered two chicken cashew salads for my wife and I. The total came to $12.68.
The young woman working the register was very polite. I handed her $23.00 (a twenty-dollar bill and three one-dollar bills).
She looked puzzled and told me that I over paid.
To which I said, “Yes $23.00 will give me a ten-dollar bill and some change, 32 cents to be exact.”
She said to me, “But, you are over paying sir.”
I said, “Yes that way I can get rid of multiple smaller bills and get a larger one back.”
She said almost as if she was asking me a question, “I don’t think you will.”
I told her to just type it in and she will see.
Yes, the register told her to give $10.32 back in change.
She laughed and told me math was not her strong suit and she just graduated from high school.
I said, “
She said all giddy, “Yeah how did you know?”
“Just a guess!” I said as I waited with my call number shaking my head.
Now it was not as if I gave her a complicated change amount like 78 cents (3 quarters and 3 pennies) to get a dime back. No this is straight math and common sense.
