Jennifer is a one in a million stay-at-home mom. (More like one OF a million stay at home moms!) She graduated from a liberal arts college but there is nothing liberal OR artsy about her. She is married to Kevin Fischer of This Just In, and together they have a beautiful young daughter Kyla Audrey. In no particular order she loves dogs, wine, a good bargain, her family, pizza, and entertaining. Follow her blog of all things miscellaneous including but not limited to cooking and baking, entertaining and party planning, being a mommy, and homekeeping.
Hey parents: do you like to check yourself against lists to see if you’re an OK mom or dad? I’ll admit it, I do. I will never strive to be perfect; I know that’s impossible. I’ll be thrilled if by the time she’s 18, Kyla is happy, confident, reasonably self-sufficient and relatively well-adjusted. I’ve said from the minute she was born that I know at some point I will mess up. Actually at many points.
While the following slide show may not be the end-all-be-all in parenting advice, it’s a fine summary and a good place to start (if you’re not there already.)
Personally, I’m proud to say that I’m not always the “yes man” and so far I haven’t become “too comfortable.” Kyla hears the no word plenty of times. Sure, she’s a fortunate little girl who often gets her heart’s desire. But whether it’s a package of cookies at the grocery store or a new DVD, there are times it’s simply not appropriate for her to get an answer of “Sure, you can have that Sweetie.” As far as becoming “too comfortable” I can say that despite my loathsome attitude towards gardening we thoroughly enjoyed the Summer 2013 Franklin Public Library Pizza & Salsa Garden program.
Take a moment or two to honestly reflect on your daily routine with your kids. As we know, there’s always room for improvement. BUT… don’t hesitate to also tell yourself what a great job you’re doing! Chances are, your kids won’t. ;-)
