I am an Ultra-Conservative, Alpha-Male, True Authentic Leader, Type "C" Personality, who is very active in my community; whether it is donating time, clothes or money for Project Concern or going to Common Council meetings and voicing my opinions. As a blogger, I intend to provide a different viewpoint "The way I see it!" on various world, national and local issues with a few helpful tips & tidbits sprinkled in.
It was nice to see Alderman Otto make it to the meeting so the Third District had representation. Now when he came in I did say hi Mr. Otto but he wouldn’t even look at me or acknowledge me or those people I was with who said hi as well.
So there was a Joint CDA/Common Council Meeting on 3-19-13 to discuss Angelic Bakehouse regarding Development Agreement between the City of Cudahy and JMJ RE Acquisition, LLC for new development on 3.7290 acres located at 3275 East Layton Avenue, in the Downtown Cudahy Redevelopment District.
The CDA and Common Council voted in favor of it and to move forward. I would have voted YES as well and think this is a positive step.
Purchase price was $370,000
The interesting part of that meeting was when the attorney talked about some of changes to the agreement and some possible City issues.
City taxpayers are on the hook FOREVER with no limits for any unknown conditions that might popup in regards to contamination and such.
A soil test shows the soil conditions are poorer and lighter than expected and at the
City taxpayer will provide up to $30,000 (no more than) for additional fill.
If there is a work stoppage, lasting 180 days or more the developer can walk away.
So it is on to the next part of the projects deadlines.
The joint meeting was adjourned and then the Common Council picked up their agenda.
Things got heated with item 5, discussion and necessary action regarding appointment of Paul C. Larzelere as City of Cudahy Plumbing Supervisor. Steve the Master plumber spoke and so did Butch.
It was a very heated and contentious item, where Cudahy Economic Development Director Brian Biernat was asked by Alderman Bartoshevich if Steve the Master plumber was personally made aware of the situation before this meeting and Brian gave a roundabout answer and wasn’t very considerate and the basic premise of it was – the City has had plenty of meetings and public discussion about it. Alderwoman Mary Schissel asked Brian if there was a "Plan B" and again Brian gave a roundabout answer and never said YES or NO.
When it came time for Public Comment, I did speak. I guess I could have decided not to come to the meeting and not speak and instead hold a fundraiser, but I think it serves the people of Cudahy better that I do come to the meetings and do speak. Holding a fundraiser and not attending and speaking at the Common Council’s Public Comment just would show the voters all you care about is getting elected and NOT standing up and speaking for the voters. And that isn’t me; I am all about being the voice for the public and asking the tough questions for them rather than just getting elected!
Well anyways, I first asked Chairman Mayor Day if there was anything new with Packard Plaza (remember I said I would stay on top of that) and he did say that he has a meeting coming up about getting a possible Urgent Care in there. I told him that was good news and thanked him.
I then said that I wanted to comment on the lack of communication and demeanor of Brian. I thought it was unprofessional and wrong. I pointed out that not everyone can be at all the meetings and a review of things was not out of the ordinary. I said that he never did answer Alderwoman Mary Schissel’s question (she was nodding her head in agreement with me as did a few other members). I said this is the very reason why I am running to fix this communication and the understanding of the people and taxpayers are the ones in charge.
Now some of you in attendance might have seen me whisked away with Brian. I am not going to talk about our private conversation as I gave my word and my word is an honorable one. I can tell you that Brian did apologize for his actions and said it was uncharacteristic for him. It was a heated issue for sure and he had some poor word choices.
I do believe him and think had you been there you would as well.
