"It’s an obligation, a responsibility, and it’s an honor to educate children with exceptional educational needs or special needs!"
-- Dr. Mel Lightner, Pulaski (WI) School Superintendent

The Wisconsin Association of School Boards held a Day at the Capitol in Madison on Wednesday March 13.  The legislative agenda as administrators and school board members met with their legislators included "Stopping Voucher Expansion and Creation of Special Education Vouchers."  Dr. Mel Lightner of Pulaski made powerful comments to a panel of Joint Finance Committee members, opposing the special needs vouchers and objecting to a legislator's description of students with special needs as a "burden" for school districts.  Audio and a transcript of Dr. Lightner's comments may be found at http://tinyurl.com/armlzfm.
