2013 Election, Cudahy, Police

One of the processes of running for election is seeking endorsements.  Some people will grant them and sometimes they say no.

However, there is another category that also happens and that is they abstain to stay neutral.  This can be out of being burned in the past, due to policy, due to personal reasons or because they don’t wish to upset anyone given an election can go one way or another and in the end you have to work with them.

Here are two such instances where an abstain to stay neutral occurred.  One from Cudahy Chief of Police Thomas Poellot and the other from Cudahy Sgt. Thomas Livesey.

Randy,

It is not possible, as Chief of Police, for me to come out with an endorsement for a political candidate.  I can tell you that I have been the Cudahy Police Chief for 5 years.  In that time I have enjoyed an incredibly productive relationship with the Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Cudahy.  There is incredible support for the mission of this police department by the public and the elected officials.  I believe the support is because of the relationships that we have built through open and honest conversation about our goals as well as the barriers we face achieving those goals.  Through ongoing collaboration with the elected officials we have made many improvements to the service we provide and the methods with which we provide that service.

I have developed a solid relationship with you over the years and I know that if you are elected as an Alderman we would work well together.  You have demonstrated to me that you seek to understand the issues by gathering information on both sides.  You have attended the Cudahy Police Department’s Citizen’s Police Academy and have expressed that you are very supportive of the Cudahy Police Department’s law enforcement efforts.  I look forward to continuing to work with you and wish for your future success.

Sincerely,

Thomas D. Poellot

Mr. Hollenbeck,

As a member of the Cudahy Police Department's Command Staff I feel that it is important that I remain unbiased with regards to whom I may or may not support as they seek election to a political seat.

In the seven years that I have been employed as a police officer with the City of Cudahy, my agency has had an excellent working relationship with its elected officials.  The Mayor, its Aldermen and the vast majority of city officials have taken a sincere interest in what their police department deals with on a daily basis.  Both you and Mrs. Hollenbeck completed the Police Citizen's Academy in recent years; you have showed a vested interest in how our department operates and were given an inside look at how the Cudahy Police Department functions.  Having taken the time to complete the course and learn about what your police department deals with on a daily basis proves that you care about the direction our city is moving in.

In closing, it is in my opinion that if elected Mr. Hollenbeck, the excellent working relationship our agency has with its elected officials would remain at a high level.  I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Sgt. Thomas Livesey
