Snow Removal in the Cudahy City 2012 Fall/Winter Newsletter

Cudahy, Newsletter, DPW, Snow Removal, Email

This was in my inbox from a concerned Cudahy Citizen on the City of Cudahy’s New 2012 Fall/Winter Newsletter.  I am hearing that people are offended by some of the items in it.

You can read it here: http://www.cudahy-wi.gov/resources/2012fallwinternewsletter.pdf

Randy:

In case you did not get your city newsletter and read the article on Snow Clearing Operations, let me paraphrase it for you.

Dear Peons of Cudahy:

Stop whining and complaining to me about snow plowing.  If you call me about it, I still won’t call you back!  Due to my mismanagement of the department of public works and the department’s budget, we lost 3 labor positions and 2 administrative positions.  Remember, when the Mayor presents the budget and submits it to the finance committee, I would have to fight for my department, and that requires work.  I don’t like to work!

Now, it took five people to plow the additional 3 acres of parking lot, 2 miles of sidewalk and ½ mile of street.  If you spread that rate out over the entire city, I would need a department of about 600 people.  That’s too many to manage!  So instead of hiring more workers, I hired two more managers (put that over on the Mayor and Council), so we have a lot of managers to support the poor low amount of workers that are left.

Remember, the more that retire, I can take out a couple of more workers, and hire another boss.  Wouldn’t that be fine, less work for me?

Now, again back to the plowing.  We get the big streets and schools first, then the little stuff.  Again, don’t complain about those alleys.  Even though about 40 percent of the garages in Cudahy are to an alley (it may be more I would have to work to figure that out), stop complaining.  Where I live, we don’t even have alleys, so why should I worry about plowing them here in Cudahy.  I don’t use them and don’t even know where some of the streets are here in town, let alone worry about all those alleys.  I can get to work, you should be able to also.

Ps. Please see the next page about throwing snow back into the alleys.  Because I can’t manage my department, I will have the cops come after you and give issue a ticket.  So there, take that!  And while I am at it, if you don’t shovel your sidewalk in 24 hours, I will hire someone (or have the DPW clean it off) and CHARGE YOU AT LEAST $138.00!

By the way, have a pleasant and safe winter.  Signed, your General Manager of Public Works!

PSS > I am glad that my city does not public a city newsletter that allows for an editorial by the Director of Public Works.  That would be a waste of taxpayer dollars, since those go towards the cost of printing and mailing the newsletter.”
