The information below has been out since January. However, I'm not sure who actually knows this information. It's the local school board election candidates for Cudahy, St. Francis, and South Milwaukee.
Cudahy (Two 3-year terms)
Frank Stanaszek (inc.), Gail Schacht (inc.), Tina Dondajeski
St. Francis (Two 3-year terms)
Brian Warwick, Amanda Bednarski (Do you need to vote for this one?)
South Milwaukee (Two 3-year terms)
David Maass (inc.), Kathee Molus (inc.), Sophia Williams
The Spring Election is on April 3.
They say that school board elections have the least turnout of all elections. I believe this is true. Maybe the reason is: some people think that since they don't have children, they don't need to vote in school board elections.
Or maybe the reason is: since people usually don't know much about school board candidates, they don't want to vote. They are uncomfortable voting for someone they don't know. I believe this is also true as well. A friend once told me that there were times where she voted for school board candidates like she chose race horses. She picked the person with the best sounding name. And honestly, I have done the same thing.
Or maybe there are other reasons. I'm sure there are.
However, the truth is: Our future lies with the children who live in our community.
If we don't invest the effort to learn about and vote for the people who lead our kids' education and if our school board candidates do not make their views known to the voters - then this combined lack of effort will ultimately hurt our community.
Hopefully, we can learn more about our candidates in the months that lead up to the election. And hopefully there will be a good election turnout in Spring. Good luck to everyone running!
(So far, I have received one flyer from one of our candidates in Cudahy.)
