2011 Trick-Or-Treat Observations
So we took my daughter trick-or-treating to her aunt’s house so she could go with her cousin in Bay View.
Now trick-or-treating was from 5-8 pm and those that were participating were to have their porch light if they were not going to be sitting outside giving treats.
What did I see?
Let’s start with vans and white school buses dropping off kids or the city buses full of parents and kids with costumes.
We started at 5:20pm and many people ran out of candy by 6pm.
We found many people with porch lights on that were not handing out candy, with one house upset that kids were ringing the doorbell. Well let me tell you, two parents went up to the house and had a few choice words for the lady. One of the parents loudly with adult words told the lady, then don’t have your light on.
Out of ten blocks, two houses doing the honor system where the bowl of take one piece please was not watched. My daughter took one piece then just after her, two teenagers came up and bam the whole bowl into their bag. Let me also mention one of the parents was there and told them, “That wasn’t nice!” and the teenager said, “Too bad, they should be watching!” I just looked at the mom and shook my head and in passing said, “That was wrong!”
I cannot tell you how many kids, I will call them kids as they were older teenagers who were way too old to be trick-or-treating but acting like kid were trick-or-treating.
One person with a sign OWS – Screw the candy companies person at his house. I thought it was a joke at first, but it wasn’t.
For Trick-Or-Treat in Cudahy on Sunday it was from 2-4pm.
The weather man and all of the local stations said the rain would start about 4pm, so wrong they were.
I setup on my front step to hand out candy while my wife took my daughter trick-or-treating.
It was 2:04pm when the rain started. Rain was coming down and that didn’t stop the kids from going door to door. By 2:20 I already had 67 kids happily treat-or-treating.
I only saw 4 vans of kids pull up during the allotted time.
I had one mother tell me that they were from Oak Creek and they came to Cudahy because they felt that by the time trick-or-treating started at 4pm in Oak Creek it would be pouring and she was right.
In all I had 273 trick-or-treaters and only about 10 of them who were too old, but I did give them candy.
I also saw 4 people who made no attempt to even dress up.
I asked them what they were and got, Lovie Smith (he was wearing a Bears jacket), a basketball player (he had normal clothes but was carrying a basketball), a 16 or 17 year old just with normal clothes who said he was just an ordinary Joe, and a 16 or 17 year wearing normal clothes who said he was an undercover cop.
I told them that they were a little old to be trick-or-treating and put no effort into it. They said, “Oh come on others are giving us candy and you know the economy is bad so this is all I will eat. You know it is the greedy bankers fault!’
I shook my head and gave them candy. I told them that it is the banker fault, Freedy and Fanny and look up Community Reinvestment Act of 1977. I told them to do a little research into the how the economic problem occurred. One of them told me that they talked about it in school and it was Reagan and Bush’s’ fault. His teacher also told him that Walker had a hand in it.
I told them that their teacher could not be more wrong and Happy Halloween!
