The Way I See It!

I am an Ultra-Conservative, Alpha-Male, True Authentic Leader, Type "C" Personality, who is very active in my community; whether it is donating time, clothes or money for Project Concern or going to Common Council meetings and voicing my opinions. As a blogger, I intend to provide a different viewpoint "The way I see it!" on various world, national and local issues with a few helpful tips & tidbits sprinkled in.

Just How Low Can AFSCME Go?

Liberals, Public Sector Unions, Protest, Wisconsin, Scott Walker, AFSCME

I was told AFSCME wasn’t one of those public unions protesting.  Sure they weren’t!

I was told AFSCME was the one good public sector union.  Sure they are!  This from a friend whose wife is an AFSCME member and they consider themselves Conservative Republicans.

Just how low can AFSCME go?

How does one explain this?

I know how they will explain it – “Scott Walker made them do it” and a few others will say, “AFSCME may be my union, but they don’t represent me!”

Wrong, Scott Walker is not making them do it and if they are your union, they do represent you.

Oh yeah, and AFSCME sure has been in Madison protesting!  They are not one of the good public unions, not by far!

We were at this location protesting as well. As Disability Advocates, we do not support a sheltered workshop environment. The sheltered workshop environment pays sub-minimum wage. In the case of this employer, 92% of those with disabilities were paid less than $5.00/hr, 50% were paid less than $2.00/hr and there were some that earned $0.11/hr based on their piece based pay scale.

The employer is a 501(C)(3) corporation, meaning it pays little to no taxes. The company had a budget of $12.2 million in 2009 and earned about $2.8 million. Of their budget $9.2 million comes from public funds.

The company president had a total compensation package of almost $199,000 and the vice president had a compensation package of $140,000. Since 2007 they have seen their compensation increase by about 23%.

Individuals with disabilities want to be treated fairly and be paid a competitive wage.
  2. Kevin, where can I verify or even see where your numbers come from?

I have contacted Opportunities Inc directly about them, but where can I find them at?
  3. I know that the wage numbers came from Department of Workforce Development. The compensation from the companies 2009 Annual Report. Revenue from 2009 tax filing. I will contact the organizer of the group I walked with and get you links, but probably nothing until Monday
  4. Was the organizer Citizen Action of Wisconsin?
  5. I was involved through the Wisconsin Coalition of Independent Living Centers.
