The Way I See It!

Dear Randy Hollenbeck:

Thank you for your recent e-mail regarding roundabouts.

 

As you may be aware, this is a Milwaukee County project.  So the appropriate person to contact for more detailed information on this specific roundabout is Jack Takerian, director of the Milwaukee County Transportation and Public Works Department.  He can be reached at 1-414-278-4835.

 

For your information, at the state level, WisDOT has been considering roundabouts where they might be appropriate, as the safety and operational benefits of the modern roundabouts have been well documented (90 percent reduction in fatalities, 76 percent reduction in injury crashes, and 30-50 percent increase in capacity).

 

On the majority of our new projects involving modern roundabouts, there is generally some initial public skepticism.  But WisDOT is confident that roundabouts provide safe and efficient intersections in many cases.
